Description

The Ussher Library will host the Interim Study Centre in the lead up to, and for the duration of, the construction phase of the Old Library Redevelopment Project. The Interim Study Centre will provide access to students, faculty, and external scholars to thousands of Research Collections items that are currently housed in the Old Library.

The Study Centre will act as the joint reading room for Early Printed Books, Special Collections, and Manuscripts and Archives collections. In addition to this a new Secure Locked Storage Area, Seminar Room and Office space has been provided as part of the project to allow for the secure storage, review and cataloguing of some of these rare and unique texts. There were a number of complex hurdles to overcome with this basement project, including the provision of ventilation within new glazed screens, smoke downstands and services routes through the existing building, all of which have been handled exceptionally well by both the Design Team (TAKA Architect’s, CORA Consulting Engineers and Metec Consulting Engineers) and Elliott Group.
