MAY 2026 NEWS — EP CATH LAB

Completion of the Electrophysiology (EP) Catheterisation Laboratory refurbishment at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin 8.

Brendan Merry & Partners are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Electrophysiology (EP) Catheterisation Laboratory refurbishment at St. James’s Hospital, Dublin 8.

BMP acted as Quantity Surveyor on this specialist healthcare refurbishment project, which forms the final phase of a wider programme of works to fully refurbish and reconfigure the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at St. James’s Hospital. Across the full programme, three Catheterisation Laboratories have been brought to modern clinical standard and equipped with new Philips Cath Lab imaging systems, together with the provision of a new patient recovery area.

This final phase concentrated on the complete refurbishment of the EP Cath Lab — a 90 sq.m clinical environment operating under the strictest infection control and radiation protection requirements. The works comprised demolition and alteration of the existing structure and finishes, construction of new internal walls including lead-lined construction to the Cath Lab, new lead-lined doorsets and screens, full replacement of floor, wall and ceiling finishes, and comprehensive mechanical and electrical installations including underground drainage works.

The project was constructed under a Public Works Contract (PW-CF5) by Medi Facilities Management, with a contract duration of 26 weeks. Given the critical-care setting, works within the main hospital corridors and all tie-ins to existing mechanical and electrical plant were carried out outside of normal working hours to ensure the hospital remained fully operational throughout. Strict Aspergillus and infection control protocols were maintained for the duration of the contract.

This project reflects BMP’s long-standing expertise in delivering quantity surveying services within live hospital environments. Our team understands the unique commercial and logistical challenges of healthcare construction — from working within active clinical areas and managing infection control constraints to procuring specialist medical fit-outs and coordinating with equipment suppliers. We have delivered similar projects across St. James’s Hospital over many years and are proud to continue supporting the hospital’s capital investment programme. A great outcome for St. James’s Hospital, and congratulations to the project team which included:

🏛️ Vincent Hannon Architects – Lead Designers and Architects
🏗️ GARLAND – Structural Engineers
