JUNE 2026 NEWS — CORKAGH PARK

Completion of the Corkagh Park Public Realm Enhancements.

Brendan Merry & Partners are delighted to highlight the completion of the Corkagh Park Public Realm, Park Entrance and Car Park Enhancement Works in Clondalkin, Dublin 22. BMP provided full Quantity Surveying services for this wide-ranging project, which was delivered across multiple zones throughout the park for South Dublin County Council.

The project formed part of a broader programme to redevelop and rejuvenate Corkagh Park, improving the visitor experience while strengthening connections between the park’s principal entrances, amenities and activity areas. The works included upgraded pedestrian links and extensive landscaping, alongside major improvements to the park’s recreational and visitor facilities.

A central element of the project was the development of a new Hub Zone. This included a purpose-built café with a kitchen, storage and serving areas, indoor seating and public WC facilities. The surrounding public realm was developed as a multi-use events space, incorporating a new outdoor performance stage and hard-standing area, formal seating, picnic areas, an amenity lawn, landscaped mounds, planting and incidental play features. The café building was completed with substantial structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical installations, bespoke internal fittings and a distinctive external treatment incorporating charred timber cladding and large sliding screens.

The Fairy Woodland Trail was enhanced as a playful route through the existing woodland. Works included a new self-binding gravel trail, bark-surfaced play areas, seating, landscape mounds and new planting, together with a varied series of play and fairy-themed features positioned along the route. These include musical play panels, wind pipes, play houses, balancing and climbing elements, timber mushrooms, fairy doors, moongate structures and natural play boulders, while mature trees were retained and protected as part of the design.
Extensive works were also completed to the St John’s Wood and Green Isle car parks and entrances. These included resurfacing of the car parks, new kerbs and road markings, drainage improvements, new entrance gates and associated electrical infrastructure.

As Corkagh Park remained open to the public throughout the works, the construction programme required careful phasing, traffic and pedestrian management, stakeholder liaison and protection of existing trees, services, roads and park facilities. The car park works were sequenced so that one car park remained available while the other was under construction, helping to maintain public access throughout the project.

The completed works provided a significant enhancement to Corkagh Park, delivering improved visitor amenities, more inclusive recreational spaces and upgraded infrastructure across the park. We are pleased to have worked with South Dublin County Council and BDP in delivering this important public realm project.
