Description

New Fire Station situated on the Kilbarry Road. Three Storey building with a gross floor areas of 2,187 sq.m.

The new station has excellent facilities which include drill tower, underground training tunnel and tank and Lecture Rooms. The Centre, in addition to response facilities, includes training and testing facilities, administration accommodation and Civil Defence facilities. Waterford Fire Station is the emergency response centre for fire fighting, river rescue, car crashes, training and public consultation in the region.

In an environment on the ring road around the city, it creates its own presence and is a new landmark. The building form is derived from the tracking movements of the fire tenders leaving their appliance bays at speed and returning after fire fighting duties. A strong but simple external envelope wrapped in zinc gives the Station a striking appearance. The building plan shape encloses a large drill yard, itself differentiated into different training zones
