The completion of the refurbishment and extension project at Evan’s Home in Kilkenny which will be the new home for the fabled Butlers Gallery closes a circle for Brendan Merry & Partners which commenced in 2010 when we were appointed to the project.

The project has taken many twists and turns during that 10 year period but under the careful direction of McCullough Mulvin Architects and with the works being carried out with equal care by Mythen Construction the project was brought to fruition in the year 2020.

The project is a major tourist initiative which will attract thousands to one of Kilkenny’s most historic buildings.

The project was a very high-quality conservation project which incorporated the magnificent refurbishment of the existing building and the integration of a new extension and will be a superb addition to Kilkenny’s medieval experience in their Cultural Quarter.

In addition to the refurbishment of the historic building itself, the development delivers a significant new area of public open spaces which will include a Children’s Garden, an Archaeological Garden, a Sculpture Garden and a new pedestrian connection from John Street through the site to John’s Quay.

The building will house a large contemporary gallery for major temporary exhibitions, the Butler permanent collection, the Tony O’Malley collection, a media gallery and an education and learning centre.
